Old Boys Shipwrecked

A group of around 40 old boys and girls met up on Saturday the 13th of November, at the Shipwreck Restaurant and Bar in Shotley Gate. We had an informal drink or two before sitting down to eat a sumptuous three course meal. After each course we all swapped tables to meet and chat with as many people as possible, and rekindle or make new friendships.

The cross section of ages and backgrounds was brilliant with Old boys from the 50's to present, and old girls from 1991 including at least one or two from the very first intake. Surprisingly, we found that we all had a lot in common, and that our experiences of the Old school were remarkably similar.

There were further drinks and chats into the wee small hours of the night, and then off to bed ready for the Remembrance and parade in the morning.

It was a fantastic display by the school on Parade, with the Band and Guard on good form. A slight disappointment that the Old boys did not have a banner party on the parade - maybe next year as I'm sure we can provide enough volunteers!!!

Then chapel, perhaps the most emotional part of the weekend, with most of us getting a lump in our throat at one point or another.

We are hoping that the dinner will become an Annual event, and extend a welcome to any former pupil or member of staff wishing to attend.

And finally, many thanks to the school for once again extending the hand of friendship to us, and making us very welcome back at the school
