canoe's when i was at RHS Left (1971), we started the canoe section building fibre-glass canoes in an old office between the gym and the RC Chapel (opposite the swimming pool). And we did a trip i think it was from Ganges past the school to somewhere on the opposite bank with Cmdr Lamb in a motorised whaler shouting advice through his megaphone. Upon arrival there was insufficient room to return the boats with Fred Coombes in a lorry so several of us had to paddle back against the tide. Upon arrival at the Creek (now empty so we had to pull the canoes over the mud), all the returning canoe team where invited to the then Headmaster's house for congrats and tea. Except me! I had to hose down the canoes and recieved detention for messing about !
